Besic’s next opponent will be the winner between Tomislav Brkic and Mats Moraing
The Bulgarian Davis cup player Alexandar Lazov lost dramatically to Mirza Basic 7:6 (2), 6:7 (3), 4:6 in the first qualifying round at DIEMA XTRA Sofia Open. The game lasted almost two and a half hours.
The match was a real battle, but at the end the experienced Bosnian, world number 134, kept in focus and won. This was Lazov’s second participation at Sofia Open singles after being defeated in 2016 by Martin Klizan. The Bulgarian made 9 aces but three double faults.
“In the beginning of the second set I felt pain in the leg. That influenced my game. This match was my best for all three editions of Sofia Open. I was calm. It is sad because few points were decisive for the win. I had my chances at the end of the second set, but I didn’t use them. Anyway, it is good for me, because Basic is world 120-130 and I was playing equal with him”, Lazov said.
