Draper Made A Successful Debut At Sofia Open 2023

The Big British prodigy Jack Draper made a successful debut at the Sofia Open. The 21-year-old tennis player prevailed 6:3, 6:2 over Maximilian Marterer (Germany) and booked himself a place in the round of 16, where he will face the top-seed Lorenzo Musetti (Italy). In both sets against Marterer, Draper broke twice to claim the final victory after just over an hour of play.

Draper played in Sofiq just a day after he claimed his first title at any level since March 2022 on Sunday when he triumphed at the ATP Challenger Tour event in Bergamo, Italy. The 21-year-old rallied past former World No. 7 David Goffin 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 in the Trofeo Perrel – Faip final after fending off 14 of 19 break points faced to earn his fifth career ATP Challenger Tour crown.

The duel against Musetti is on Wednesday on the centre court in “Arena Sofia”, with a start time no earlier than 18:00.

In another late first-round encounter, 2019 finalist Marton Fucsovics had no trouble against qualifier Terrance Atmane, defeating him 7:6 (4), 6:3. In the opening set, the two exchanged one break each, and in the tiebreak, Fucsovics was at the familiar high level and won 7-4. A break in the sixth game of the second set was enough for the representative of Hungary to close the match.

Fucsovics will face Yuri Rodionov (Austria) on Wednesday in his try to find a spot in the quarterfinals. The start of the match is before 16:30 on Court 1.

The tournament is held with the support of Inbet, Nova Broadcasting Group, А1, Diema Extra, Electrohold, Sofiamed, First Investment Bank, Europa Bullion, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism.
