The match lasted a little more than an hour and a half.Dimitrov had won all of the six encounter between the two so far. Their previous meeting took place at this year’s Australian Open when the in-form-Bulgarian emerged victorious from the quarterfinal clash in three sets. Dimitrov continued playing arguably as well as he ever has and has a golden opportunity to eclipse his career-high No. 8 ranking.
Next week the Haskovo native will climb at 12th place in Emirates ATP single rankings right behind his opponent today. Next week Dimitrov and Goffin will play at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.
“I thank to my mum and dad, to my coach Dani. And – thank you all. The Bulgarian fans. Without you I could never win this tournament. Somehow today I went back in time when I was a kid, playing the national championships. This trophy means a lot to me,” said Grigor on the court.
