Gilles Simon, Taro Daniel, Viktor Troicki and Aslan Karatsev completed 2020 Sofia Open main draw, after winning their matches in the qualifiers second round.
Top-seeded Frenchman eliminated the Ukrainian Ilya Marchenko 6:2, 6:3 in his Sofia Open debut participation. The experienced former world No 6 was solid at the baseline and needed a bit more than an hour and a half to win his match.
Fourth-seeded Taro Daniel stopped Martin Klizan 6:3, 6:4. It was the fifth participation for the Slovak player in Sofia. He played in the semi-finals here in 2016 and on the quarterfinals in 2017 and 2019 editions of the tournament. The Japanese, current world No 114, needed just two breaks for his success.
It was a good day for one of the favorites of the local crowd – Viktor Troicki. The Serb, who lost the final in Sofia in 2016, eliminated Italian Fabrizio Ornago – 6:2, 6:4, and guaranteed his place in the main draw in the fifth year in a row.
The last player who won a spot in the main draw is Aslan Karatsev. The Russian won 7:6 (2), 6:4 Marc-Andrea Huesler.
