Jannik Sinner started the best way his defence of Sofia Open 2020 title. The Italian seeded first, opened his new campaign winning world №112 Egor Gerasimov in straight sets – 6:3, 7:6(3).
The Belarusian had eliminated Vasek Pospisil in the first round, thus preventing a re-match of last year final.
Sinner controlled the first set with ease, while in the second, he struggled a bit more due to a slightly unsure forehand. The young talented player showed again how mental stable he is in difficult moments and won the match.
Tomorrow the 20-years-old will play Australian James Duckwowrth, victorious in two sets over Benoit Paire, for a place in the semi-finals.
