Jannik Sinner registered his first-ever defeat at Sofia Open. The champion in 2020 and 2021 retired in the 2022 edition due to injury against the fifth seed Holger Rune. After the match Sinner announced that he would not compete in the next big ATP event – the tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan, next week, but he hopes to be ready for the week after and play in Florence, Italy.
“I am not troubled with my defeat but with my physical state. Now the most important thing for me is to recover fully. It is not a pleasant situation because I love indoor tournaments. But let’s see what will happen. Unfortunately, I will not be able to compete in Astana, but I hope – I will be ready for Florence (10th – 16th of October).
Sinner had 11 consecutive victories at Sofia Open.
