2022 defending champion Marc-Andrea Huesler continued his 7-match unbeaten streak at the Sofia Open. The Swiss qualified for the main draw this year, defeating the Italian prodigy Francesco Passaro 6:4, 7:5. Thus, Husler, who won his only ATP trophy in Sofia, already has as many as ten victories on Bulgarian soil.
No. 1 QR seed Terence Atmane secured a spot in the main draw, too. The Frenchman, who is among the contenders for the Next Gen ATP Finals, won his second match in Sofia after not giving a set to the Ukrainian Ilya Marchenko and won 7:6(3), 7:5 in an hour and 36 minutes.
Atmane is highly motivated to perform well in Sofia to earn points to send him to the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from November 28 to December 2. A place there has already been secured by Lorenzo Musetti, who is the leader of the main draw of the Sofia Open 2023. The Serbian Hamad Medjedovic, who will also play in Sofia, will fight for a place in the finals of the Next Generation, too.
The American Nicolas Moreno De Alboran and the British Billy Harris will face for the last spot in the main draw.
Harris played two tiebreaks against Turkey’s Yanki Erel to beat him 7:6(3), 4:6, 7:6(3). De Alboran, seeded #2, dealt with the Bulgarian Davis Cup player Alexander Donski 6:3, 6:4.
