The players from Bulgarian wheelchair tennis national team will join the euphoria of DIEMA XTRA Sofia Open. On Thursday, February 8th, the players will show their enthusiasm and spirit after the last match at Court 1 in “Arena Armeec”.
This Bulgarian Tennis Federation Social project provokes people with disabilities to discover a new world of excitement, joy and challenges.
17 players from Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Troyan and Blagoevgrad are the group of most active tennis players. All of them have the support of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation and Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The Bulgarian Tennis Federation has been working hard for the development of tennis for people with disabilities. The development of sport for people in wheelchairs is a priority. The purpose of the program is to provide access to tennis for people with disabilities and to promote the cause.
In 2017, for the first time, a project on “Program for development of sport for people with disabilities” of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for people with wheelchairs and those with intellectual disabilities was also accomplished.
The project gave the people with disabilities opportunity to participate in tennis activities, led by professionally trained sports specialists, as well as sports facilities and specialized sports equipment for practicing tennis for people with disabilities.

A special wheelchair tennis tournament was also organized as a part of the European Week of Sport #BeActive – an initiative of the European Commission with coordinator for Bulgaria – Ministry of Youth and Sports.
