New Doubles Champions Escobar and Nedovyesov: We are proud how we ended the season

Gonzalo Escobar (Ecuador) and Alexander Nedovyesov (Kazakhstan) are the new Sofia Open Doubles Champions. They saved two match points in the third set and won Julian Cash (Great Britain) and Nikola Mektic (Croatia) 6:3, 3:6, 13:11 in 1:25 hours at the Center Court of “Arena Sofia”.

“I think it was a tough game right from the start. We started really well, got an early break in the first set and held the advantage until the end. But then we missed the moment, and they also raised their level. A long tiebreak is always a lottery, but I think we were just a little more aggressive at the end. Of course, we also had a bit of luck. Like I said, it was a great tournament. It wasn’t an easy start for us, but ending the year with a trophy is always great. We are very happy,” Nedovyesov said.

“We are very happy to win this trophy. It was a tough year, so I’m proud of how we ended it. We were not sure that we would play in Sofia. We just decided at the last minute, and now we are happy because it was a great week. It was tough in the tiebreaker, so it’s even sweeter. We saved a match point, we also had a bit of luck. We are just very happy with this final of the season,” Escobar added.

The tournament is held with the support of Inbet, Nova Broadcasting Group, А1, Diema Extra, Electrohold, Sofiamed, First Investment Bank, Europa Bullion, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism.
