Nikola Mektic Reached His Third Sofia Open Final

Experienced Nikola Mektic reached his third final in three tries at the Sofia Open.

Along with Julian Cash (Great Britain), 32-years-old will try to win again the doubles trophy tomorrow as they will face in the final Gonzalo Escobar (Ecuador) and Aleksandar Nedovyesov (Kazakhstan).

Cash and Mektic won 7:5, 6:4 Ariel Behar (Uruguay) / Adam Pavlasek (Czechia) in the first semi-final. In both sets, Cash and Mektic broke in the final games.

In 2018 and 2019, Mektic won 7 matches combined and lost just once. In 2018, he partnered with Alexander Peya and lost to Robin Haase and Matwe Middelkoop from the Netherlands. The following year, his partner was Jurgen Melzer, and they grabbed the trophy after a tough three-set win against Cheng-Peng Hsieh and Christopher Rungkat.

Escobar and Nedovyesov – were even stronger as they beat the Australians Max Purcell and John-Patrick Smith 6:3, 6:2 in 64 minutes.

The doubles final of the Sofia Open 2023 will be played on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. on the Center court at Arena Sofia. The singles final will start at 15:00.
