Second Seeded Lammons/Withrow With Early Exit In Doubles Tournament

The second seeds, Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow couldn’t finish the season in style. The Americans, who narrowly missed a Nitto ATP Finals spot, were defeated at the start of the Sofia Open 2023. In an exciting match, they lost with a championship tiebreak to Andrey Golubev (Kazakhstan) / Denis Molchanov (Ukraine) – 6:7 (8 ), 6:2, 7-10.

In the quarterfinals, Golubev and Molchanov will meet Australians – Andrew Harris / Riiki Hinjikata or Max Purcell / John-Patrick Smith.

Julian Cash (Great Britain) / Nikola Mektic (Croatia) had a victorious star after 4:6, 6:1, 10-7 over Nikola Cacic (Serbia) / Philipp Oswald (Austria). Mektic is looking for a third Sofia trophy after winning it in 2018 and 2019.

Earlier in the day, the Bulgarians Aleksandar Donski and Alexander Lazarov, who participated with a “wild card”, left the doubles tournament after a defeat in two sets – 4:6, 4:6, to Simone Bolelli (Italy) and another Sofia Open Champion – Matwe Middelkoop (Netherlands).
