Sofia Open’s tickets went on sale at 1st of November

The biggest star of the Bulgarian tennis Grigor Dimitrov officially confirmed his participation in the ATP 250 tournament Sofia Open 2018!

Grigor send a special video message to the fans in his homeland that together they could win the title again – as they did it in February this year.

“Hello, Bulgaria. I’m very glad to tell you that in February next year I will play again in Arena Armeec to get another title. In the end of the season there are still a few more tournaments and then – a hard work and good preparation for the next season. Thank you for the support! See you soon”, Dimitrov said.

The third edition of Sofia Open will take place from 4 to 11 February 2018 in Arena Armeec. Tickets are available for sale from 1 November 2017. Tickets can be purchased online at eventim.bg.

“It’s a fantastic news that Grigor Dimitrov will play again in Sofia. And as he said himself – will try to defend the title”, said the Director of Sofia Open 2018 Paul McNamee.

He told that the Bulgarian fans are the most important reason why Grigor will participate again in the tournament in the Bulgarian capital. “The audience in Sofia was fantastic. We had over 50,000 fans during the previous tournament. We definitely made one of the best ATP series tournaments for the year. What a result we achieved with the previous edition after the Bulgarian favorite Grigor Dimitrov won the tournament, knelt in front of the fans and kissed the court. What a moment it was. What a better way to express his gratitude for the Bulgarian audience that supported him so strongly”, added Paul McNammee.

The most important thing to convince Grigor to play in ATP 250 tournament in Sofia again was the love of the people. He had not felt such an emotion, he had not felt such a strong connection with the fans. Besides, after Sofia he had such a good year. It is typically for players in such a situation to try to repeat some of the steps. What a year he had – he won in Brisbane, playing an outstanding semi-final with Rafael Nadal at Australian Open, winning in Sofia, then winning his first Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati, and then the best of all – he became the first Bulgarian qualified for the ATP finals in London. At the moment, Grigor is number 8 in the world rankings, but next Monday will be number 6 in the world. Depending on the development of the tournaments till the end of the year, he could become number 5, potentially even number 4 in the world. Can you realize what this achievement means for Grigor and for Bulgaria”, continued McNamee.

“For the third consecutive year we are organizing this tournament and I’m very proud that this one will be the first major sports event in Sofia during our presidency of the Council of the European Union. I hope the tournament will show the glamor of our capital to Europe and the world”, said the Minister of Youth and Sports Krassen Kralev.

“I believe that the maximum number of young tennis players and coaches from Bulgaria will watch an interesting games. At the same time we have prepared a surprise with a world-famous name that will hold lectures during the tournament”, said the President of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation Stefan Tsvetkov.

“For our company is a great honor to be part of this tournament. We hope to see some great games again and the tournament to be even better than the previous one. Come to the hall to watch interesting and good matches”, said Erden Bilgener – Member of the Board of Directors of Garanti Koza Bulgaria.
