Another Italian star at Sofia Open 2022
Lorenzo Musetti – #30 in the World and Top 3 in the ATP Race to Milan for the NextGen Finals, followed Jannik Sinner and also confirmed his participation in Sofia

Another Italian star of the future has confirmed his participation at the Sofia Open 2022. Lorenzo Musetti, #30 in the World and #3 in the Race for the ATP NextGen finals in Milan, will play in the seventh edition of the ATP 250 tournament in Sofia from September 25th to October 2nd 2022 in Arena Armeec.

Lorenzo Musetti is a former World Junior No. 1, becoming the 2019 Australian Open champion. He first rose to fame on the ATP circuit in March 2021 with the semi-final in Acapulco. Three months later, he reached to the round of 16 at the French Open and even led 2-0 in sets against future champion Novak Djokovic before retiring with injury. Last month Musetti won his first ATP title, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg.

The 20-year-old Musetti is currently No. 30 in Pepperstone ATP rankings, the highest ranking of his career. Thanks to this achievement, he will be seeded at the US Open – the first time in a Grand Slam tournament.

Musetti is at the forefront of the Italian invasion among the stars of the future. Seven of the top 16 players in the Race for the ATP NextGen finals in Milan are Italian. The top 3 in the Race is more than impressive – leading the standings is the Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz, who has already climbed to No. 4 in Pepperstone ATP rankings. Right behind him is the Italian wonder Jannik Sinner and third is his compatriot Lorenzo Musetti.

The two-time Sofia Open champion Sinner has already confirmed his participation in the 2022 tournament, along with last year’s finalist Gael Monfils and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka.
