Local heroes against the top-seeded double Vasselin/Melzer

The local heroes Dimitar Kuzmanov and the Serbian Viktor Troicki, who is one of the most loved players at Sofia Open, will play against the top-seeded double Eduard Roger-Vasselin/Jurgen Melzer in the start of the 2020 Sofia Open Doubles. The French is the current world No 20, and Meltzer is 29th. The Austrian has won the title in the last Sofia Open edition – in 2019, playing along with Nikola Mektic (Cro).

The draw was announced today.

Troicki is former doubles champion in Sofia, after winning the trophy in 2017 along with the Serbian doubles legend Nenad Zimonijc. A year before he played in the singles final of the inaugural Sofia Open and lost to Roberto Bautista-Agut.

The winner will have the opportunity to meet another Bulgarian couple – Alexandar Donski/Vasko Mladenov who will make their debut against Brits Jonny O’Mara/Ken Skupski.

The current second-best doubles British player is coming to Sofia. Jamie Murray (No 24) will partner with Neal Skupski (No 26). They will play against Divij Sharan (Ind)/Igor Zelenay (Slvk).

Murray is a seven-time Grand Slam doubles winner and a Davis Cup champion, and a former doubles world No. 1.

The 2018 Sofia Open Doubles champion Matwe Middlekoop is coming back, this time playing with Marcelo Arevalo (Esa). They will start their campaign against Belgium’s Sander Gille / Joran Vliegen.
